Allergy/Anaphylaxis PolicyWild Monkeys Childcare Ltd is open to all children, regardless of their medical needs, as long as we have a member of staff trained to deal with the medical needs in question.
Children with allergies are welcome to join our setting and will be encouraged to participate fully in all our activities. We realise that allergies can be very dangerous, and the aim of this policy is to outline everybody’s rights and responsibilities. If your child has allergies, please inform the manager immediately when you join the setting or if your child develops an allergy whilst in our care. This is for the safety of your child. Please tell us what the child is allergic to, and how severe their reaction is. This will be marked on the attendance sheet each day that your child is in, to ensure that all staff are aware. Staff will also be informed of children’s allergies when the child first joins the setting or if their allergies change. If your child has been prescribed medication for allergies or anaphylaxis, such as an EpiPen or similar, we need to be provided with their medication during the whole time your child is in our care. This is so that we can ensure that your child is given appropriate medical treatment if they inadvertently come into contact with an allergen. Medication will be handled and stored in accordance with our Administering Medication and Accident/Incident/Emergency policies. Medication must be in date. The majority of staff are trained in Paediatric First Aid with Anaphylaxis and are able to administer auto injectors and similar if required. If a child suffers an anaphylactic reaction, we will contact emergency services and provide first aid as required. Parents will be contacted. Staff have also completed anaphylaxis training and understand how to recognise the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction. If your child appears to have had a mild allergic reaction whilst in our care, we will inform you. If your child has a severe allergy, we will do our best to ensure that they are not exposed to the allergen via other children’s meals from home. Food provided by the setting will be carefully checked to ensure that it does not contain the allergen. However, due to food labelling regulations, we are unable to guarantee that an individual product will not contain traces of an allergen. We will make every effort to ensure that items used for activities, e.g. junk modelling, have not been in contact with your child’s allergen/s. Peanuts Due to the prevalence of allergies to peanuts, we are a peanut-free setting. Please do not include foods containing peanuts in your child’s lunchbox, as they will not be able to eat them, and staff may have to dispose of them. Peanut allergies can be life-threatening, and we have made this decision for the safety of the children at the setting. Please help us to keep our children safe by following this rule. Food provided by the setting will be carefully checked to ensure that it does not contain peanuts. However, due to food labelling regulations, we are unable to guarantee that an individual product will not contain traces of nuts.
