Wild Monkeys Childcare Ltd does not have unsupervised internet access on site for children. Business devices include a laptop, office computers, iPads, and iPhones, which are all password protected. Only the owner and staff have access to documents, records and photographs saved on these devices. Photographs are deleted from the devices within 3 months. While it is understood that any member of staff has a right to a personal life, they must ensure that anything done outside work does not break confidentiality or damage the setting’s reputation. This includes making any reference to work on the internet, including social networking sites. Staff members should not list Wild Monkeys Childcare as their place of work online, or discuss any personal, sensitive, or confidential information related to Wild Monkeys Childcare Ltd. All of these could be classed as misconduct and staff could face disciplinary action. As part of our aim to ensure confidentiality is maintained, staff will not make or accept invitations to become online friends/followers/similar with parents/carers/relatives of children at the setting on any social networking site. The only exception is where parents were known to members of staff prior to the parent or staff member joining the setting. Cameras, devices and mobile phones We have iPads, and iPhones for use in the setting. These may be taken off the premises for outings, but they are password protected and only used by members of staff during sessions. We will only ever take photographs of children on these devices, and only where permission has been sought from parents/carers. These photographs will only be used in accordance with the permissions given by parents/carers. Photographs will not be taken if the child indicates they do not want a photograph taken, and this will be noted on their Famly entry for that day. Staff and parents/carers are not permitted to bring personal cameras on site. In addition, mobile phones belonging to staff are not to be used during a shift. Staff phones are kept in the staffroom during shifts and should not be used outside of breaks. If a staff member does need to briefly use their phone during a shift, this must be done in the staffroom, and only with the permission of the manager on duty. Personal phones must not be used to take photographs of children and should not be used outside of the staffroom. There is an exception in the case of a mobile phone being used as a medical device, for example tracking glucose levels. Any staff members under this exception agree to keep the device in a transparent bag on their person and only use the phone to check medical needs in presence of a senior member of staff (or if in an emergency in front of the CCTV cameras). If a pre-school child brings a device with them they will need to leave this with the manager until they leave. If a school-aged child brings a device with them, the manager will discuss e-safety with the child and parents before use and that child will only use the device while supervised. Devices which cannot take or transmit photographs will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Fitness trackers such as Fitbits, Garmins, etc, and smartwatches such as the Apple Watch, will generally be acceptable for staff to wear provided they cannot take or transmit photographs. It is recommended that children should not wear these devices or similar to nursery, as they can easily be lost.
