Infectious Diseases Policy and ProcedureIt is Wild Monkeys Childcare Ltd.’s policy to keep children safe when they are in our care, promote good health, and take necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection within the childcare setting. To do this, we follow the government’s guidelines on infection control in schools and other childcare settings.
Prevention Staff will promote hand washing in warm soapy water before eating or handling food, after petting animals, and after using the toilet. Children will also have access to single use paper towels to dry their hands. This will ensure minimised cross contamination. Staff will promote the use of tissues for children with coughs and minor colds. All spillages of bodily fluids will be cleaned up immediately and staff will wear disposable gloves for the changing of nappies. Staff will discard the gloves after each change. Procedure If a child becomes ill whilst at the setting, parents will be asked to collect the child. The child should not return until they are well. If the child has required first aid/emergency treatment or required the emergency services to be called, the child will then not be allowed to return to nursery until the child has been checked over by a medical professional (i.e, GP, Hospital). Certain illnesses require the child to be excluded from the nursery for a certain period of time, or until treatment is complete. These include, but are not limited to, illnesses such as diarrhoea/vomiting; chicken pox; impetigo; and others. A full exclusion table is available from the government website at gov.uk. Please note that if your child has diarrhoea or vomiting, they must not attend nursery until 48 hours after their symptoms stop. If the setting has a confirmed case of an infectious illness, parents/carers and staff will be notified. No personal or identifying data about the ill person will be shared. If a child contracts a notifiable illness as identified by government guidelines, the manager will take action as advised by Public Health England, and will inform Ofsted of any action taken. Covid-19/Coronavirus/SARS-CoV-2 As of 24/02/2022, isolation will no longer be a legal requirement. We ask that in line with government advice, any staff member or child who tests positive for Covid-19 should isolate for the period of time specified in current guidance. Vaccination Wild Monkeys Childcare Ltd does not require children to be up to date on vaccines prior to attending the setting. However, we do strongly recommend that children are vaccinated according to the NHS schedule, which is available at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/nhs-vaccinations-and-when-to-have-them/. Many infectious diseases can be prevented by vaccination, including several diseases which require exclusion from the setting. If parents or carers have concerns about vaccines, we strongly recommend that they speak to their GP and visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/why-vaccination-is-safe-and-important/ for reassurance. All of the vaccines on the NHS recommended schedule are offered free of charge. We understand that some children cannot be vaccinated due to allergies or other medical reasons. We also recognise that some parents may choose not to vaccinate their children for personal reasons. Upon starting at Wild Monkeys Childcare, we ask that parents inform us which vaccinations their child has had, and that parents keep us up to date on this throughout their child’s time at the setting. This is so that we can be aware of which children may not have had a particular vaccination, and so may be at risk of catching or spreading particular illnesses.
