Outings Policy and ProcedureWhen your child joins us, we will request parental consent for outings. These may include, but are not limited to, trips to the shops; to local green spaces; to the library; and others.
We may also organise a larger outing once or twice a year – in the past, we have gone to the zoo and lots of other places! In this case, we will seek permission for this outing, and may also request a financial contribution to enable us to provide the outing. Generally, we will hire a coach or similar vehicle for this, with appropriate insurance and safety provisions. We aim to go on outings away from the setting regularly, particularly as part of our provision. These outings play an important role in children’s learning and development, particularly in their understanding of the world. These outings will take place on foot or using pushchairs for children which need them. Children will be encouraged to take an active role in preparing for outings, and we will do our best to make outings part of the setting’s normal routine. Children will generally hold onto a rope with staff at either end, to maintain safety. Younger children will be in a pushchair or carried if needed. If children require measures to support their safety on outings, such as reins or similar, we encourage parents to discuss this with us. When crossing roads, children will be encouraged to discuss whether it is safe to cross, and why/why not. Staff will make the final decision on safety and will guide the crossing. A first aid kit will be taken on all outings, as well as appropriate food and drink. One of the nursery’s phones will also be taken to ensure that the setting and parents are contactable. The phone is checked before we leave by making a phone call to the main office phone. We will fill in an outings checklist before we leave
