Smoking / Vaping PolicySmoking / Vaping and exposure to smoke increases the risk of lung cancer, heart disease, and various other serious illnesses. At Wild Monkeys Childcare, we believe that our staff and children have the right to breathe air free from smoke.
Please note that everything in this policy applies equally to vaping and e-cigarettes. Smoking / Vaping is not permitted in any part of Wild Monkeys Childcare. This includes inside the house, in the back garden, and in the front garden. This applies to everyone, regardless of their relationship to the business, including parents, visitors, contractors, delivery people, and of course staff and children. This is a legal requirement, and smoking in no-smoking areas can lead to fines of up to £200. Staff who smoke must comply with the rules in the staff handbook regarding smoking. This includes going well away from the nursery premises to smoke, and not wearing uniform whilst smoking, due to the risks to children of third-hand smoke. Breaches of this policy will lead to disciplinary action and potentially dismissal. Staff members are expected to politely but firmly inform families and visitors of this policy if needed, and to ensure that everyone on the premises complies with the smoking ban. However, members of staff are not expected to enter into a confrontation which may put their personal safety at risk. If this occurs, the appropriate authorities may be contacted if required.
